Emphasis is on the steps in the writing process, including planning, prewriting, drafting, revision, and editing. Students will hone writing skills and work toward achieving an acceptable level of mechanical correctness on all final drafts. Library and online researching skills will be introduced as a preparation for further study in English and other disciplines.

This course aims to strengthen students' reading and writing abilities in preparation for college-level writing. A means of learning and inquiry, the writing in this class is based on interpreting, analyzing, and critiquing texts, as well as on conducting research, synthesizing sources, and using citation/documentation formats. Prerequisite: qualifying ACT English sub-score or minimum score on the English placement exam or successful completion of ENG 099. Grade only. Meets GOAL 1.
